Who Are Baxi?

Baxi Boiler Prices

Baxi is one of the more well known UK boiler brands and has been going strong as a boiler manufacturer since 1866.

Baxi is known as a company with a drive for innovation, service, and quality and has a well-trained network of over 200 Gas Safe engineers. They are a trusted name with boiler systems being ranked by several review sites due to their quality construction, high efficiency, and compact space.

Baxi actively promotes environmental sustainability and outstanding technical support to all their valued customers.

They are also well known in the UK for delivering the best value via their energy efficient, reliable, and high quality products.

Brief Look at the Baxi 400

Baxi 400 Combi Review

The Baxi 400 Boiler series comes in two varieties. The 424 24kW model and the 428 28kW model.

Today we will be looking at the 28kW model because this is more suitable for the average UK home, as the 24Kw variety is not as powerful for heating your home and providing hot water.

The Baxi 400 Combi is ideal for small and medium households who would like a boiler that is small enough to fit inside a kitchen cupboard. With an A efficiency rating and compact size, it won’t be too noticeable in your kitchen or other cupboard space.

If your looking for some of the best combi boilers then you can compare them all here with us in under a minute.

Energy Efficiency:

The Baxi 400 Combi LPG has an A rating for heating and hot water efficiency. It is an energy-efficient combination with a compact size. This boiler will therefore help to cut the cost of your fuel bills year in, year out. You can combine this system with an optional uSense smart room thermostat for even more increased efficiency.

This additional system will enable you to change heating times from your smartphone or tablet, meaning you don’t even need to be at home to control your heating system, a real modern inclusion in a boiler system.

How Much Does the Baxi 400 Boiler Cost?

The Baxi 400 Combi with its varying output models of 24kW or 28kW is priced on average between £650 and £725.

Please note that generally, the installation of the boiler will cost more than the actual boiler itself so the typical installation price of this boiler would be anywhere from £1900-£2,500.

This price can increase if you need to switch from another system for example. If you currently have a system or regular boiler in your home with an external cylinder for cold and hot water, this will all need to be removed if you switch to a combi system. This is because a combi system boiler will heat the hot water internally in the boiler unit and doesn’t require any external tanks.

Is Baxi 400 Boiler Suitable for My Home?

Baxi 400 Combi Review

The Baxi 400 series will be suitable for homes and apartments with 1-3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. If you have 2 bathrooms and more you will require a larger system. The 28kW variety in particular will heat up to 12 radiators at once so it can provide the central heating for large homes just not the hot water capacity.

Easy to Use Controls:

The Baxi 400 series control systems are located on the front of its casing. Control systems such as an operating mode selector and switches enable you to adjust the hot water and central heating temperatures.

The system also has a fault diagnosis LCD display. This shows you the boiler temperatures and current status. It is available with the optional smart control, or you can choose from a selection of other accessories including mechanical timers and plug-in RF thermostats.

Baxi 400 Conclusion:

The Baxi 400 is a decently priced, moderately performing system with a lower range output. It won’t be suitable for most homes in the UK above 3 bedrooms however it would suit smaller homes fine.

The warranty is on the lower end, and the performance is also averages in terms of output and hot water heating. We therefore would recommend a similarly price lower-end system.

The Viessmann 050-w is a much better system with an incredible 98% efficiency, It also has a higher flow rate of up to 12.1L/m which is also in direct competition with some of the other best combi boilers such as the Worcester 4000.
